How Wikipedia Harnessed the Power of Crowdsourcing

This week I’m going to be looking at crowdsourcing and how Wikipedia managed to use it to create the world’s largest encyclopaedia.

Crowdsourcing is basically outsourcing. It the process of a company or business taking a job that would have been done by employees and outsourcing it to a large, usually unidentified crowd of volunteers who work collaboratively. Though chaotic at times there are numerous benefits to using crowdsourcing including increased speed, quality, flexibility, diversity, and decreased costs.

In the recording below I talk about how Wikipedia managed to harness the power of crowdsourcing to create an online encyclopaedia. Please excuse the rude birds.
